Two-Edged Sword

• God's Word is Two-Edged Sword. The Word [and the Word in flesh, our Lord Jesus Christ] is discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart

Heb 4:12 "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

John 1:14 "And the Word was made flesh [Jesus Christ], and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."

Mark 2:6-8 "But there was certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, 7Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only? 8And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?"

• God uses His Word, the Two-Edged Sword to Circumcise the hearts of His Children [making them born again of Water, the Word of God and Spirit, the Holy Spirit]

Josh 5:2-3 "At that time the LORD said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time. 3And Joshua made him sharp knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins."

Deu 10:16 "Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked."

Deu 30:6 "And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live."

Deu 6:6-7 "And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up."

Eph 6:17 "And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:"

Rom 2:29 "But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God."

• The Word of God, the Two-Edged Sword can cut to Eternal Life  or to Eternal Damnation

2 Cor 2:14-17 "Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. 15For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: 16To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things? 17For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ."

• The Word of God, the Two-Edged Sword can cut through the hearts, one edge cut to Salvation

Rom 10:17 "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

Eph 6:17 "And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:"

Acts 2:37-41 "[on the day of Pentecost] Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call. 40And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. 41Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls."

Luke 2:34-35 "And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his [Jesus Christ] mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; 35(Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed."

• The Word of God, the Two-Edged Sword can cut through the hearts, the other edge cut to damnation 

Acts 7:54-60 "When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him [Stephen] with their teeth. 55But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, 56And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. 57Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, 58And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul. 59And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. 60And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep."

• False Gospels are sharp as two-edged sword too but cuts only to destruction

Pro 5:3-4 "For the lips of a strange woman [doctrines that are not under the authority of the 'whole Bible'] drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: 4But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword."

• The Word of God, the Two-Edged Sword shall Judge in the last day 

Rev 1:12-17 "12And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;  13And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man [Jesus Christ] , clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. 14His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; 15And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. 16And he [Lord Jesus Christ]  had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. 17And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first  [John 1:1, In the beginning was the Word] and the last [John 12:48, the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day] :"

John 1:1-3 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."

John 12:47-48 "And if any man hear my [Jesus Christ] words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. 48He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day."

1 Cor 6:2-3 "Do ye not know that the saints [born again believers] shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? 3Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?"

1 Cor 1:2 "Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus [born again believers] , called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their's and our's:"

Psa 149:5-9 "Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds. 6Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand; 7To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people; 8To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; 9To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD."

• The Word of God, the Two-Edged Sword cuts [brings divisions in] the families

Luke 12:51-53 "Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: 52For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. 53The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law."

Matthew 10:21-22 "And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. 22And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved."

Luke 14:26-27 "If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. 27And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple."
